On March 4th, 2008 WBUR reported on a new health bill presented by Senate President Therese Murray for Massachusetts. Massachusetts enacted a universal health care system for the state which has increased costs for the state since they must cover uninsured residents. She has outlined a plan that will lessen the cost and improve health care. Martha Bebinger reported this news story by giving background to the new bill and played a short clip outlining her plan. Bebinger then began to analyze the details of the bill but cited some popular problems with the plan as well, playing clips by experts from Massachusetts Medical Society, Tufts Health Plan and Health Connector. Each of these experts were given a lot more time to explain their disagreements with the bill. Bebinger played clips from people who supported the plan such as Gov. Deval Patrick, but their agreements were very short and that "there were a lot of good ideas" in the bill.
When I first listened to this health care segment I was surprised of how subjective WBUR was of this plan and how many people they had on the show to disagree with the new bill. However, WBUR did add at the end that all in all, this bill is getting better support than most bills get when they are first introduced.
